coaching

What is coaching?

Coaching is a process which helps to maximise personal and/or professional potential and supports a person in the management of change and self-development. It is forward thinking and relies on actionable, realistic, but stretching, goal setting. Although the purpose of coaching is to challenge, sessions are driven by the coachee and are therefore fluid in structure and content. Sometimes, however, it is important to have an impartial listener, who will interact without judgement or agenda: this in itself can be enough to facilitate a shift in thinking.

What are the benefits?

There are many benefits to coaching and these include, but are not limited to, achieving the following:

  • fresh perspectives: coaching is often described as holding up a mirror to yourself
  • greater self-awareness: it can help you to overcome self-limiting beliefs, become attuned to and ,where necessary, change ingrained patterns and build confidence
  • clarity in decision making
  • a more positive mindset
  • increased empowerment
  • structured planning and goal setting
  • increased productivity

What will we do in a session?

Good question! I've mentioned that coaching is a fluid process and will be driven by your ideas and needs; this is true. We will first establish what you want to get out of coaching, although perhaps you won't know this yet. We will explore this further, I will listen a lot, ask you some questions and we may even go for a walk. As sessions progress, coaching will stretch and challenge you (it is meant to), but you are in charge and my approach is enabling and supportive.

How many sessions will I need ?

This is entirely dependent on what you are trying to achieve- please get in touch to discuss

What will I feel like after a coaching session?

Hopefully energised and enthused! You may also feel tired: you will be thinking a lot which is hard work. And this process continues after the sessions have ended, as you reflect on what you've learned.

What coaching is not....

Coaching is not the same as counselling, therapy or mentoring. If you have any questions about the differences and what you are after, please get in touch and we can discuss further.
